University of Aberdeen

The University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495 just as Columbus was discovering the New World, is one of the top universities in the UK. The University of Aberdeen, nestled in the midst of a 15 th century village just one mile from the center of the city, is a university about the size of Duquesne and is similarly situated in an interesting, middle-size city. The city of Aberdeen is known as the oil capital of Europe because of the North Sea oilfields about 100 miles off the coast, and northern Scotland is rich in beaches, skiing, castles, and white water rivers.

Academic Highlights
The university is especially rich in the liberal arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. Our natural science students have found strong science courses to keep them on track at Duquesne.

Housing and Meals
There is a range of housing/board options, but most of our students stay at North Court and South House due to their proximity to campus. In the UK, the custom for most students is to occupy “single-study bedrooms” with shared common kitchens/living rooms for about 5-7 people. “Self-catering” (doing your own food preparation) is the norm.

Services Provided
The University of Aberdeen has a special advisor for international students, as well as an Advisor of Studies, who will guide students from their time of arrival. From an orientation to registration guidance, health services and social support, the University of Aberdeen supports American study abroad students.
