Downtown Pittsburgh (The Golden Triangle)

Pittsburgh, originally, a thriving Steel manufacturing city is now transitioning itself to become one of America’s knowledge based capitals. The region of South West Pennsylvania is home to over 29 colleges and universities and 8 of these; including Carnegie Mellon, University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne are located in the city of Pittsburgh. With a thriving student population of over 20,000, Pittsburgh is a friendly, yet exciting; international, yet local; and modern yet traditional American city.

Cultural Diversity:

Pittsburgh is a city proud of its roots and keen to redevelop itself as a knowledge capital. It already has an international foundation and from the time you arrive, you will be sure to meet people with Italian, Irish, Polish, Chinese and Indian heritage. Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods represent this cultural diversity: Enjoy the open Italian market of the Strip district every weekend; the Asian restaurants in Oakland and the Southside; or the Irish bars scattered around the city. With a growing Indian population, Pittsburgh is one of the biggest pilgrimage spots for Indian people who live in the USA. One of the reasons for this being that it is home to various temples including the largest Indian temple in the geographic region, Sri Venkataswara and also the Hindu Jain temple amongst others.

Living in Pittsburgh:

Pittsburgh is a manageable city where one can have a high quality of life at a low price. If you are an undergraduate first or second year student, you will live on campus in student dormitories, giving you the opportunity to settle in, acclimatize to the new culture and make friends.

After your first two years here or as a graduate student, you will have the opportunity to live in one of the many convenient neighborhoods in Pittsburgh such as:

All within a 1 5 minute bus ride or less from Duquesne’s campus. Transportation in and around Pittsburgh is excellent with a regular bus service running from neighborhoods to downtown Pittsburgh and Duquesne’s campus. Rent ranges from $ 200 per month to $800 per month in such neighborhoods, depending on your requirements.
