Duquesne University offers an exciting range of approved study abroad programs. “Approved” programs are of four(4) different kinds:
1. Direct Enrollment Programs
Students enroll directly in the foreign institution. These institutions, e.g., the National University of Ireland – Galway, have an office, much like Duquesne’s Office of International Programs, that facilitates all aspects of helping study abroad students. Our Direct Enrollment programs are all in English-speaking countries.
2. Exchange Programs
Duquesne has a number of exchange programs with other universities ( Louvain, Sophia, Cologne, etc.). An exchange format functions much like the Direct Enrollment (see above), but it also means that the foreign institution can send a student to Duquesne for every student we send to them.
3. Third-Party Provider Programs
Duquesne uses several “Third-Party Providers” to perform the liaison function between our institution and a foreign institution. We use several of the major, and very highly respected, third-party providers: AIFS (American Institute of Foreign Study; IES (International Education of Students); IFSA-Butler (Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University); and several university providers: SUNY (State University of New York); Saint Olaf College; and University of Wisconsin.
4. Duquesne’s Own Italian Campus Program
Duquesne University offers Duquesne students the opportunity to study at our own campus in Rome, Italy. This program can accommodate a maximum of 60 students each semester.
