St. Mary’s College, Twickenham (London)


The program at St. Mary’s College, Twickenham, is offered through the University of Wisconsin , Platteville. It is “designed to give students a personalized and integrated living and learning experience in a British University .” All American students are required to take a common course in the political, social and economic forces that have shaped Britain during the last 200 years. Otherwise, students are mainstreamed into the British University and make their course selections from the regular St. Mary’s curriculum available to British students. The College offers a university library and numerous extracurricular activities, including a sports programme, and student health and counseling services.

Located just west of London in Twickenham, St. Mary’s is proximate to Richmond-upon-Thames , Kew Botanical Gardens , and Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace . It is a short commute to all the cultural and historic attractions of central London , from which access to other cities throughout the United Kingdom , British Isles , and other European cities is quite accessible.

Housing and Meals
Participants are housed in the homes of local British families. Breakfast is provided at the home daily; the evening meal is taken with other students at the St. Mary’s College Refectory. Participants should not expect to have access to the kitchen in the home where they are staying.

Services Provided
International students have access to a Study Abroad Adviser at St. Mary’s to assist students with personal, academic, and financial issues. Students are housed in homestay accommodations with breakfast then take their evening meal on campus with English students. Other services include: International Student Identity Card; access to Student Union; field trips associated with the course: “Britain Transformed: 1790-1990” to the Houses of Parliament; the Science Museum; the Victoria and Albert Museum; the Public Records Office; the Imperial War Museum; and the Cabinet War Rooms. Additional field trips are available at a nominal cost.
