University of Sussex

The University of Sussex is renowned as one of the most exciting British universities. It was founded in 1961 and quickly established an international reputation for the quality of its research. The World University Rankings put Sussex in the top 10 in the UK (9 th), the top 20 in Europe (17 th) and among the top 60 in the world (58 th). Sussex is particularly noted for its wide ranging studies in the natural sciences, liberal arts, and education.

Brighton, on the south coast of England, is a lively and well located area in which to study abroad. London is about one hour away by train, and Gatwick International Airport is only a half hour from the university. Brighton has a long history as not only a seaside town but also as a cosmopolitan and lively gathering place. The famous Brighton Pavilion built by the Prince of Wales in the early 19 th century remains a focal point of Brighton’s colorful past. Sussex is also well placed for trips across the English Channel to explore mainland Europe.

Housing and Meals
Sussex has plentiful on campus housing for study abroad students. The UK custom is for most students to have private “study rooms” in housing facilities with shared kitchens/living areas. Board is “self-catering.” Kitchens are shared by 5-12 students, and this UK custom helps you meet both English and other study abroad students.
