Personal Expenses and Health Insurance
International students who attend university within the United States are not permitted to work off-campus, therefore it is necessary for the OIP to include personal expenses in the cost of your Duquesne University education for things such as books, lab supplies, entertainment expenses, etc.
It is mandatory for all students attending Duquesne University to have health insurance and therefore the estimated cost above is included in the overall cost of the University. Further information about this can be obtained by contacting the Office of International Programs.
The TOTAL amounts above reflect the cost that the OIP must see in order to issue any student immigration information.
Libermann Scholarship
Limited financial assistance is available to international undergraduate students in the form of the Libermann Scholarship, which is a merit-based scholarship based on past academic performance in secondary school and previous universities. The amount of the Libermann award ranges from USD $1,000 to $12,000 per academic year, and is renewable up to four years of study. Students who apply and are accepted to the University are automatically considered for this award. We recommend that students who wish to be considered for the Libermann Scholarship submit their applications for admission by April 1.
Certification of Finances
In order for Duquesne to offer you immigration documents, you must first be admitted academically to the University and secondly the Office of International Programs must receive sufficient evidence that you have access to adequate funds to support yourself for at least one academic year while studying and living in the United States. You will need to submit the following either with your application or after you have been accepted:
- An Affidavit of Support Form – this form is a legal document in accordance with United States immigration law. Any person supplying knowingly false or incorrect information will not be admitted to the University.
- A letter from your sponsor’s (family, local government, etc.) bank stating that the sponsor is willing to support your tuition and living costs while at Duquesne University.
- A bank statement that supports the amount of funding your sponsor had indicated in the bank letter or the Affidavit of Support.
Other University-Based Assistance
Talent Scholarships - The School of Music annually recognizes talent by awarding scholarships based upon an audition.
Athletic Scholarships - The Athletics Department awards scholarships each year for both men's and women's NCAA sports.
Clergy Discount - Members of the clergy are given one-half remission on tuition for most programs. (Spiritans are given special funding opportunities)
Outside Financial Assistance
Private/Corporate/Government Sources - Many countries offer sources of funding as well. For example, governments (at various levels) and businesses will commonly fund a student's education if the training or the degree will serve a need or promote growth. Check with your country's government for guidance.
Sponsorship from the USA - The United States State Department and a host of other agencies will often sponsor students if their countries are designated for such funding. Students should speak to the educational advisors at the bi-national centers, the U.S. Consulate, or the Embassy for information and guidance.
