Undergraduate Application Process and Requirements
Where do I send my application?
If you are a non-US citizen your application and supporting documents should be sent directly to the Office of International Programs for admission review. In some cases the OIP will work with other departments on campus to make a decision.
If you are a US citizen overseas, Greencard holder or hold refugee status your application should be sent to the Office of Admissions. The OIP will work closely to assist the Office of Admissions with your application review and any questions can be directed to either office.
Does Duquesne have an application deadline for international students?
Admission for most programs is on a rolling-admission basis, which means that you may submit your application at any time prior to the semester of your intended enrollment. However, please be conscious of the amount of time you should allow for processing your documentation and receiving immigration clearance. The sooner you submit your application and credentials, the sooner we are able to make a decision and complete all of the necessary paperwork. Students interested in being considered for the Libermann Scholarship should submit their applications before April 1.
December 1st: Admission deadlines apply to the following undergraduate programs: Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Forensics.
Does Duquesne have any TOEFL requirements?
Applicants are not required to submit the TOEFL exam, as Duquesne will test all accepted students upon their arrival to campus; however, this is also highly recommended. If you wish to take the TOEFL exam as part of your application and receive a 575 PBT or 213 CBT you will be exempt from the English testing upon arrival. Students who received a 525 PBT or 195 CBT will most likely be placed into some ESL coursework while beginning academic classes as well. Does Duquesne have an SAT requirement?
International applicants are not required to submit SAT scores for admission to Duquesne. However, they are highly recommended if you are a native speaker of English and/or have attended an American-style or international-style secondary school.
What is a transfer student?
A transfer student is anyone who has attended any university, regardless of time in class, prior to their application to Duquesne University. All transfer applicants must submit their final official mark sheets from ALL prior university work before an official admission decision will be made.
Academics
What degrees and programs are offered at Duquesne?
Duquesne offers more than 90 majors in nine different schools. More information about our academic programs can be seen by visiting our Undergraduate Majors website.
Can I receive credit for courses taken at another college or university?
Yes, if you have already completed what is equivalent to university study in the United States, you may be able to use the courses that you completed at another university for credit at Duquesne. Each university class is reviewed on an individual basis by our Academic Advisors. Consideration of transfer credits cannot occur without course descriptions. Course descriptions help academic advisers compare the course content of what you have taken at another university with what is offered at Duquesne.
Does Duquesne offer credit for coursework done at the secondary school level, such as the International Baccalaureate program, A-level exams or Advanced Placement exams?
Yes, Duquesne recognizes a variety of advanced level secondary school course work /degrees/ diplomas for college credit. Duquesne will grant advanced standing credit for:

How can I obtain a student visa for Duquesne?
Once you are accepted to the university and show financial support as required by U.S. immigration law, Duquesne will issue you a SEVIS generated I-20 or DS-2019. (SEVIS is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System and is an immigration tracking system for international students and exchange visitors.)
Once you receive this document you must make an appointment with a Visa Consular Office at your local U.S. Embassy. The Consular Officer at the embassy will make the final decision on whether you will be granted a student visa (F-1) or exchange visitor visa (J-1) to enter the United States and begin your studies at Duquesne. You may apply for this visa up to 90 days prior to the start of classes. You cannot obtain a student visa for Duquesne at an embassy without immigration documents from the university.

How much does Duquesne cost for international students?
How much Duquesne will cost will depend upon the particular program that you are interested in. Please see the cost sheet for more information. Estimated costs at Duquesne University are listed below:

Does Duquesne offer scholarships or financial aid to international students?
Duquesne offers the Libermann Scholarship to international undergraduate students which is based on academic merit. The Libermann Scholarship is awarded to students beginning in the fall semester only. All accepted international undergraduate students are automatically considered for a Libermann Scholarship and no additional application or forms are needed.
Music and athletic scholarships are also available for undergraduate students and are based on talent and ability. International students may submit a video of their athletic or music ability with their application if they wish to be considered for such financial aid.
What is the Affidavit of Support Form and when do I need to submit it?
In order for Duquesne to offer you immigration documents, we must received sufficient evidence that you have access to adequate funds to support yourself for at least one academic year while studying and living in the United States. The Affidavit of Support Form is a legal document in accordance with United States immigration law and along with this form you must send of the following:
A letter from your sponsor’s (family, local government, etc.) bank stating that the sponsor is willing to support your tuition and living costs while at Duquesne University.
A bank statement that supports the amount of funding your sponsor had indicated in the bank letter or the Affidavit of Support.
Can I work on-campus?
There are a number of offices, departments and facilities that do employ students during the academic year, however they are not guaranteed to any students. These jobs are obtained by contacting our Human Resources Office after your arrival on campus.
Can I work off-campus?
No, in accordance with United States immigration law international students on an F-1 visa are not permitted to work off-campus. For this reason we must factor in personal expenses when looking at the funding you have available before we can issue and I-20.

Does Duquesne have an international student advisor?
Yes, the international student advisor is located in the Office of International Programs and is here to help you with any questions that you may have about immigration, orientation to the University, and any day-to-day questions that you may have. The OIP is truly your “one stop shop” and is here to help you every step of the way.

Where is Duquesne located? What is the surrounding area like?
Duquesne is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is a vibrant, friendly, and safe city that is consistently ranked as one of American’s most livable cities, its location combines the best of the Midwest and East Coast regions of the United States . Duquesne’s campus overlooks the “golden triangle” of downtown from its attractive tree-lined hilltop setting called the “bluff.”
How can I visit Duquesne's campus?
You are more than welcome to come and visit us on campus. Pittsburgh has its own international airport, with many major international and domestic flights arriving everyday. Please contact OIP@duq.edu or call 412-396-6113 and someone will be able to arrange a visit for you. However, since many of our international students cannot travel with frequency, we offer a virtual tour through our Web site.
